Friday MLB Betting Features Leading National League Contenders
writer | College Baseball9 Jul 2010
Two of the leading teams in the NL face off in MLB betting on Friday as the Philadelphia Phillies host the Cincinnati Reds.
It is the 2nd competition of a four-game series. Joe Blanton is scheduled to get the start while the Reds counter with Johnny Cueto. The Phillies will probably be minor faves in baseball betting.
The Reds continue to be undervalued by MLB betting probabilities this season. Cincinnati is demonstrating that they’re a threat to win the NL Central. At home and on the road, the Reds have a winning record this season. Cueto has been strong all year for Cincinnati as he is 8-2 with a 3.56 ERA. Since late April, he has lost only one time. He’s 2-0 in his last 3 starts with a 0.45 ERA. He has gone1-2 with an 8.04 ERA so he hasn’t pitched well in his career versus the Phillies though.
Blanton is 3-5 on the season with a 6.27 ERA. Nonetheless, recently he has pitched better. In his last 3 starts he is 1-0 with a 4.57 ERA. He has performed nicely in his career vs the Reds going 2-0 with a 3.92 ERA.
Prior to yesterday’s competition, the Phillies had won 12 of the last 20 versus the Reds. The teams competed in Cincinnati just over a week ago and the Reds took 2 of 3 and 2 of the competitions went over the total in baseball betting. Last year when they met in Philadelphia, the Phillies took 3 of 4.
The Reds are ahead with an offense that is 5th in the league in runs landed. Although he wasn’t on the All-Star squad originally, Joey Votto should make the team when all is said and done since he is having an All-Star season.
The Phillies are just behind the Reds in terms of runs landed at 8th in the league. Philadelphia’s pitching has been slightly better than Cincinnati’s, though it hasn’t translated to any more wins. The Phillies have been strong at home but not impressive. As they’re below .500 on the road, it is their road record that has hurt them this season. Normally the Phillies are a outstanding road squad but so far this season that hasn’t been the case and it is 1 reason why they aren’t in 1st place.
